Tibetan Monks Visit Toms River

An Historic Cultural Event

On Sunday, June 26, 2011 a group of eight Tibetan Monks visited OCHS. More than 90 members and friends filled the Birdsall room at the Museum to learn of the customs and traditions of the Drepung Gomang Monastary that have been practiced for several thousand years. The Monastary, currently home to over 2,000 exiled Monks, is located in Karnataka, South India. Guests enjoyed the debate, chants, musical instruments and dances of this ancient culture.

Our gratitude goes to Susan and John Garofolo, coordinators of the Monks' 2011 tour, and to OCHS volunteers Jim Sudora and Betsy Dudas for bringing this outstanding event to our Museum.
