Happy 250th Birthday, Toms River!

Happy 250th Birthday, Toms River!

Celebrate Toms River’s 250th birthday at Ocean County Historical Society, 26 Hadley Avenue, Toms River,  on Wednesday, May 24th at 7:00 PM.  Toms River Clerk and Official Township Historian, J. Mark Mutter, is the featured speaker and will trace Toms River’s diverse history from the ‘Original People,’ the Lenni Lenape, through the Age of Exploration to the incorporation of the Township of Dover to the current Toms River name change in 2006.

Mr. Mutter has dedicated his vast knowledge and talents for many years to serving the residents of Toms River, as a former member of the Dover Township Committee, as Deputy Mayor and then Mayor, and now as Township Clerk.  His enthusiasm for researching, collecting artifacts and educating about all aspects of Toms River is infectious!

Before and after Mr. Mutter’s presentation, view OCHS’s newest exhibition in the Pauline Miller Room.  You’ll find amazing photos, news articles, and artifacts that help you to understand and appreciate the culture of Toms River in the last 250 years.

Join in the fun, learn about Toms River’s history, enjoy refreshments and conversation with fellow history buffs.  Space is limited.  For reservations, call 732-341-1880.   Free admission.
