In 1950, Dr. Joshua Hilliard and a group of Ocean County residents who had a strong interest in preserving the history of our area gathered together to form The Ocean County Historical Society, with Dr. Hilliard as our first president. For several years the group held meetings at different locations around the county. Local historian Pauline S. Miller felt the need for an Historical Society Museum. With her encouragement The Ocean County Historical Society Museum officially came into existence with Mrs. Miller as its first director. More than sixty one years later OCHS, in its beautiful Victorian home in Toms River, continues the mission of the original Society members: Telling The Stories Of Ocean County.
Why not become a member of The Ocean County Historical Society today, and help us to keep Ocean County’s history alive.
